Lublin - interesting facts
One of the most popular regional products is a roll or pie topped with onion and poppy seeds. It was first baked by the Old Quarter Jews of Lublin; however the recipe soon started to spread across the whole region of Lublin. Although onion pies from various bakers differ in taste, they are all baked following the same recipe.
There are about 350 cities in the world where you can see trolley buses. Lublin is one of the four such cities in Poland. During summer holidays you can take a ride and do the sightseeing of the city on the historic trolley bus called "ZIU-tek". The bus departs from the station near the Krakowska Gate (across from the cathedral) at 2 p.m, 3.30 p.m and 5 p.m. The ride takes 45 minutes. The same tickets as for any other bus lines are required.
The vaults of Lublin - it is a 300 metre route running under the buildings of the Old Quarter. It will lead you through 14 exhibition halls, where the stages of the development of the city (starting from the tribal period till the year 1670) and mock-up panorama of Lublin are on display. Yet another attraction is a puppet theatre displaying the fire of Lublin in 1719.
Lublin is a city teeming with students - they constitute about 1/5 of the city's population. There are 4 universities here: John Paul II Catholic University, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, Medical University of Lublin, Lublin University of Technology and University of Life Sciences. In addition, there are a few private institutions of higher education.
